Pre-Publication Reviews, Commentaries, Evaluations

Judith A. Libow, PhD - Co-author of Hurting for Love: Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome; Coordinator of Psychological Services, Department of Psychiatry, Children's Hospital and Research Center at Oakland, California

"Lasher and Sheridan's book is a must for social workers and child protection workers who are the frontline workers charged with the challenging task of managing the difficult and contentious issues involved in MBP investigations. They review the seminal thinking on this disorder and then contribute highly detailed and practical guidelines, protocols, and recommendations that will be invaluable for child protection workers, whether experienced in this field or new to this work. This is a welcome addition to the existing literature on MBP and should contribute a great deal to a thoughtful, fair, and strong approach to protecting children from this type of abuse."

Larry C. Brubaker, MA - FBI Agent (Retired)

"This book is an excellent resource for professionals from all disciplines who may be confronted with this misunderstood disorder. Any question - from the initial identification to assisting victims with treatment - is thoroughly addressed. Each chapter provides quick step-by-step guidelines that can be used by all members of a multi-agency multidisciplinary team. The included Risk Assessment Work Sheet is a valuable tool for MSP practitioners. This book is a must for every professional involved in MBP investigations."

Mason America , Ph.D - Director, Asher Meadow (www.AsherMeadow.com supporting the Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome Community)

"Through detailed case studies and analysis, the authors take readers into the lives and minds of people whose obsessive craving for attention compels them to fake illness, sometimes to the point of death. A unique perspective into many case accounts is provided, bringing the reader deep into this disturbing disorder and offering clear and practical methods for identifying, reporting, and intervening. A valuable resource for anyone working with MBP cases, this book is a must-read for clinical professionals and anyone with a suspicion of MBP in their own families. It is easily the leading resource available today for MBP identification and intervention."

Janice Wolf, JD - Child Advocate, Honolulu, Hawaii

" A must-have for every child advocate and child welfare investigator...a well-written, pragmatic, what-to-do and how-to-do-it. This book will save lives, guaranteed."

Lynda M. Stidham, MD - Pediatrician, Century-Airport Pediatrics, New York

"The detailed information in this book will benefit all persons involved in the medical, psychological, and social welfare of children. It should be required reading during the training and education of physicians, psychologists, nurses, and social workers. The organized and systematic approach makes the book especially suitable and user-friendly. Lasher and Sheridan have written a book that will have a significant impact on the identification and protection of victims of MBP. I will be sure to place it on my office bookcase alongside other major pediatric text-books."

Michael J. Light, MD - Professor of Clinical Pediatrics - University of Miami

"This book is a fascinating journey into the underworld of MBP. The authors, by means of case presentations and their own extensive clinical experience, weave a tapestry that provides the reader with a deeper insight into MBP. The book offers an approach on how to evaluate cases systematically with a logical sequence of questions, and it presents a comprehensive approach to the management of the victim and the perpetrator".

Jean A. Cotton, JD - Owner, Cotton Law Offices, Elma, Washington

"A must-read and a must-have for every family law, criminal, and prosecuting attorney as well as every judicial officer who hears cases involving MBP child maltreatment. Every attorney and judicial officer dealing with these types of cases should be required to obtain education on this troubling behavior and how it affects everyone involved in such cases from the children and parents to attorneys, court staff, experts, judges, and witnesses. An outstanding job by the authors - I look forward to more from them in the future."

Excerpts from book foreword by psychiatrist and international MBP expert, Marc D. Feldman

"...It is the skills-based and pragmatic approach - rich in case examples, sample forms, and representative management plans - that makes Munchausen by Proxy the small miracle that it is. Eminently readable, it has immediate applicability form the moment that MBP enters fuzzily into the realm of diagnostic possibility through potential confirmation, case management, and treatment for any underlying psychiatric problems among perpetrators and for the victims. Primary care physicians have had their Harrison's and Cecil (textbooks). At last, child advocates have their Lasher and Sheridan."
